Dundee Man Convicted for Possessing Firearm as Prohibited Person

A Delaware County man who possessed a firearm as a prohibited person pled guilty in federal court in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday.
43-year old Matthew Welcher of Dundee was convicted of one count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. At the plea hearing, Welcher admitted that on May 24th last year, he possessed a caliber rifle after having been convicted of two felonies and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and while he was subject to a no-contact order.
Welcher faces up to ten years in prison, along with a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
He remains in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, which has not yet been set.
