A teen was arrested after leading police on a car chase in Independence on Friday.

Independence Police say a 15-year old boy led officers on a chase through Independence towards Rowley. An officer tried stopping the vehicle for an equipment violation near the 1800 block of 1st Street West, but the teen driver refused to stop at signs – driving at excessive speeds and crossing through private property at Prairie Hills Assisted Living on Enterprise Drive.

Police were assisted by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa DNR and DOT.

The teen driver and another juvenile passenger were detained in the 2400 block of 290th Street.

The driver faces charges of Eluding, Third Degree Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving and Careless Driving.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
