Verle “Jack” Morris Pugh – Strawberry Point

Verle “Jack” Morris Pugh, 94, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at MeadowView Memory Care in Cedar Rapids. He was born on January 18, 1928, in Strawberry Point, the son of Glenn Pugh and Marjorie (Burington) Whittle.

On December 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Darlene Anfinson at Lima Church in Fayette. Three children were born to this union. Verle worked at Colonial Bakery, Linkbelt/FMC and All Seasons Equipment in Cedar Rapids through the years.

Survivors include one son, Calvin (Janann) Pugh of Strawberry Point; three grandsons, Andy (Tricia) Pugh of Evansdale, Anthony (Nicole) Pugh of Goffstown, New Hampshire, and Tim Pugh of Cedar Rapids; three great-granddaughters, Ashley Pugh of Ames, Rachel Pugh of Evansdale, and Annalie Pugh of Goffstown, New Hampshire; one great-grandson, Owen Pugh of Goffstown, New Hampshire; one step granddaughter, Michelle Stelken of Independence; two step great-grandsons, Connor McCallen and Ian Stelken, both of Independence; and special friend, Joan Bedient of Strawberry Point.

Also surviving are sisters, Anna Mae Friederich of Strawberry Point and Barbara White of Scottsville, Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Leone Popenhagen of Wadena and Kolleen Asaad of Danville, Illinois; brother-in-law, Darrel (Bonnie) Anfinson of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews.

Verle was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Pugh; one daughter, Verla Darlene Pugh; one son, Galen Lenard Pugh; his parents, Glenn Pugh and Marjorie (Burington) Whittle; his parents-in-law, Leonard and Catherine (Bishop) Anfinson; three sisters, Glenola (Bud) Himmel, Betty (Ben) Hofer, and Dorothy Cook; a brother, Kenneth (Jerree) Whittle; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Friederich and Harold Popenhagen.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, with Pastor Jerome Godson presiding

Visitation: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before the funeral service at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa

Interment: Cass Township Cemetery – Strawberry Point, Iowa
