Lucille E. Goedken – Oelwein

Lucille E. Goedken, 93, of Oelwein, Iowa peacefully passed on Monday evening, May 2, 2022, at Oelwein Health Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 10th and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 11th at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

C.D.A. Rosary:  3:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. Albert Cemetery, in rural Dundee, Iowa.

Lucille Elizabeth Friedman was born April 18, 1929, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the daughter of Clement J. Friedman & Theresa C. (Hoffman) Friedman.  She lived with her family in Manchester for three years before moving to Lamont where she attended the Lamont School.

She was united in marriage to Merlin Harold Goedken on January 20, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont.  Lucille and Merlin lived on a farm near Lamont, where they farmed for 48 years before retiring to Oelwein in 1997.

Lucille was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court St. Rita #321, Auxiliary of MercyOne Hospital, Auxiliary of the Lamont American Legion and was a frequent volunteer at the Oelwein Health Care Center.

Lucille was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching her grandchildren at sporting events, working on puzzles and watching the Chicago Cubs.  She spent many days of the week with her friends at the meal site playing penny poker and bingo.

Lucille is survived by her Husband of 74 years: Merlin Goedken of Oelwein;

6 Children:  Carol (Tom Schiltz) Tousley of Oelwein,

Merlin C. (Lynette) Goedken of Strawberry Point,

Richard (Mary) Goedken of Dundee,

Betty Kusch of Mays Landing, New Jersey,

Barbara (Bill) Ramsey of Muscatine &

Robert (Lois) Goedken of Dundee;

18 Grandchildren;

36 Great Grandchildren;

4 Great-Great Grandchildren;

2 Sisters:  Eileen Thompson of Monticello &

Madonna Friedman, OSF of Waterloo &

several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers: Cletus, Cyril, James and Robert; 2 sisters:  Lavonne C. Breckenfelder and Mary Rasmussen; 2 sisters-in-law: Katharine (Bergfeld) Friedman & Leona (Berns) Friedman Harris; 2 brothers-in-law: Howard Breckenfelder & Robert Thompson; 2 sons-in-law: Fred Tousley & Kenneth Kusch and a grandson: Gregory Goedken.

Lucille’s family would like to thank Oelwein Health Care Center for their compassion in caring for Lucille during her stay.  Our gratitude for your kindness and loving care is endless.
