Road Work Begins on Highway 38 in Monticello

Road work begins in Monticello today.

The Iowa DOT will be resurfacing Highway 38. The work will take place from the Monticello Airport to Main Street, from Main Street west on First Street to Cedar and then north on Cedar to 9th Street.

There are no road closures planned during this project. Most of the work should be completed with single lane closures and flaggers.

Contractors will grind the existing roadway and lay the first level of asphalt, which is expected to take about two weeks. Then they’ll come in to repair the curbs and do the sidewalk and accessibility improvements – they’re hoping to start that work on May 23rd, which will take about a month. And then after the concrete work is completed, they’ll lay the final layer of asphalt and finish striping the lanes – that work is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Weather-permitting, the entire Highway 38 project in Monticello should be finished before the 4th of July weekend.
