Delaware County Pay It Forward Helping Manchester Family after House Fire

The community is rallying around a Manchester family who lost their home in a fire over the weekend.

An early morning fire on Sunday destroyed Ben and Darcy Schiess’ home at 17168 190th Street. The fire fully engulfed the garage and extended into the family’s living quarters. There was also damage to nearby structures. Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says they haven’t determined what caused the fire.

Delaware County Pay It Forward is helping the family by organizing donation efforts. Organizers say Ben and Darcy greatly appreciate everyone reaching out. At this time, they’ve done all the work they can until they get the go-ahead from insurance to start cleaning up. They have what they need for the time being and greatly appreciate the donations they’ve received already.

Delaware County Pay It Forward encourages anyone who would like to help the family to donate to their Venmo or Dupaco account until they can start the long road ahead to rebuilding their home. They’ll post a need for volunteers to help with clean-up when needed or as needed.

Donations can be made to the organization’s Venmo account @DelCoPayItForward using the comment “Schiess”. An account has also been set up at Dupaco in Manchester. Donations can also be mailed to the organization on the family’s behalf at “Delaware County Pay It Forward, PO Box 281, Manchester, IA 52057” – be sure to write “Schiess” in the memo.
