Luminaries Available for Delaware County Relay for Life

The Delaware County Relay for Life is coming up later this month.

Mark the date for Friday night, June 24th from 5 to 11 pm at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Manchester.

And one of the most special moments of the night comes during the luminary ceremony. Committee member Cathy Lilienthal says it’s a chance to honor our cancer survivors and remember those we’ve lost.

The luminaries are white paper bags, each one featuring a name – and each one holding a block of wood with a tea light inside so that they can be lit up around the track the night of the Relay – just as it gets dark around 9:30 pm.

You can decorate your luminary or there is a committee who can decorate your bag for you. If you’d like to order a luminary, forms can be picked up at Brehme Drug, the Delaware County Treasurer’s Office or KMCH. Please return the forms to Brehme Drug by June 23rd. Or you can also purchase luminaries up until 7 pm the night of the Relay. The cost for a luminary is a suggested donation of five dollars (though you’re welcome to donate more), with all the money going to the American Cancer Society. Lilienthal says the ultimate fundraising goal is to help put an end to cancer – so that no one has to fight this terrible disease ever again.

Everyone is invited to come out for the luminary ceremony and the Relay itself – it is free to attend.
