Kids can have fun fishing at a special event at Backbone State Park this weekend.
The Friends of Backbone is hosting a free fishing clinic on Saturday at the parking lot next to the dam. Friends member Roger Helmrichs says it’s open to kids ages five through sixteen, with those under twelve needing an adult with them to participate.
Registration starts at 9:30 am, with the activities getting underway at 10 am. The event should wrap up by noon.

The Friends of Backbone host this event every year during the first weekend of June – in conjunction with the Iowa DNR’s free fishing weekend. Any Iowa resident can try fishing – without buying a license – tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday at lakes, rivers or neighborhood ponds.
