Authorities Release Name of Cascade Fire Victim

Authorities have released the name of the person who died in a fire in downtown Cascade.

The fire broke out Wednesday night around 9 pm at 206 1st Avenue – a downtown building that housed a business, Interior Elements, on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says the apartment’s resident, 39-year old Christian Wagner of Cascade, was found inside. He died from the injuries he sustained in the fire.

The Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the scene, along with Cascade PD, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and fire departments from Cascade, Worthington, Bernard, Farley, Monticello and Dubuque. The Sheriff’s Office says the building had heavy smoke coming from it when fire crews arrived.

The building, estimated at $80,000, is a total loss.

The Sheriff’s Office says the exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time – it does not appear suspicious, but remains under investigation.
