Rhubacue on the River in Manchester on Saturday

Rhubacue on the River is this Saturday in Manchester.

It’s an annual event started over a decade ago that celebrates rhubarb and barbeque – and Manchester Chamber Director Dave Wakefield says they’ll have plenty of both.

That’s Chamber Board President Kurt Heims, who says they’re excited to bring back some of the old contests this year.

Rhubacue on the River will take place from 8 to 1 on Saturday – they’ll be blocking off South Franklin Street, with all the activities taking place in that general area. More than a dozen vendors will be set up on the street, selling goodies or providing information. There will be kids’ activities – such as sidewalk chalk, face painting and balloon animals – from 10 to 1, Bingo in the gazebo starting at 10 am, the contests and a Bike Safety Talk will get underway around 10:30 am and there will be live music from 11 to 1.

And the Rhubarb 5K & Mile Fun Run is back this year, too.

To sign up for the 5K, just go to the Chamber’s website at manchesteriowa.org. Or for more information about Rhubacue on the River, feel free to reach out to the Chamber at 927-4141 or stop by their booth Saturday in front of Riverbend.

And we’ll be there – Justin, Janelle and Jon – broadcasting live on the Franklin Street Brewery patio – from 9 to 11 and sticking around 1 pm that day. Be sure to tune in or stop by and say hello!
