Conversion Therapy for Minors Banned in Incorporated Linn County

Conversion therapy for minors is being banned in unincorporated areas of Linn County.

On Tuesday, Linn County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance amendment that will now prohibit any efforts by service producers to change the sexual orientation and/or gender identity of minors, including conversion and reparative therapy.

The ordinance passed on a 2 to 1 vote. Linn County Supervisor Stacey Walker, who voted for it, says it’s his hope that their action will inspire and encourage other governments in Linn County and around the state to follow their lead. Linn County is the first county in Iowa to pass an ordinance banning conversion therapy.

Supervisor Louie Zumbach voted against the ordinance, noting he did not believe it was the County’s role to implement such a ban.
