Summer officially arrives today – and the weather sure feels like it.
We’re in the midst of the hottest weather we’ve seen so far this season. Highs yesterday reached into the mid-90’s. And today, we’re expecting to hit right around 97 degrees, with heat index values reaching over 100.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today, in effect from noon to 7 pm.
Delaware County Public Health Coordinator Krystle DeShaw says there are a few steps you can take to protect yourself during this summer heat.
And she says don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
Take extra precautions and make sure you’re wearing lightweight loose-fitting clothing if you need to be outside. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. And if possible, reschedule any strenuous activities to early morning or evening instead of during the day.
