Therese Melchert – Hopkinton

Therese Melchert, age 90, died Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Emory Place Care Center, Robins following a brief illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 Thursday morning, July 7, 2022 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Hopkinton with interment in the Hopkinton, Cemetery.   Friends may call from 4 until 7 Wednesday at the church, where a parish vigil service will be held 3:30. Visitation at the church will resume at 10:00 on Thursday morning.

Surviving are 7 daughters, Peg McNamara, Ryan, Diana Melchert, Arlington, TX., Paula (Leo) Woods, Ryan, Lynne (George) Cantu, Austin, TX., Gayle (Kevin) Funke, Hopkinton, Marla (Bill) Wright, Mt Vernon, Joyce George, Flower Mound, TX., 3 sons, Jim (Pam), Hopkinton, Kevin (Miquel) Ely, Corey (Tammy), Hopkinton, 25 Grandchildren, 9 great-Grandchildren and 3 sisters, Ethel Hosch, Janet Marbach, Virginia (William) Uhlenkamp, and in-laws, Kay Becker, Helen Becker and Katie Melchert Jane Melchert and Yvonne Cole.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon in 2015a son-in-law, Don McNamara, a grandson Kyle Woods a great-grandson Micah Cantu and 3 brothers, Gilbert, Kenneth and Vernon Becker, an infant brother Vincent and an infant sister, Rita.

Therese Catherine Becker was born, January 9, 1932 at Worthington,  Iowa.  She was the daughter of Reynold and Erma Gudenkauf, Becker.  Therese received her education in the rural schools near her home and at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Worthington.  She worked on the family farm and also as a hired girl on neighboring farms.   Therese Becker and Vernon Melchert were married on August 20, 1951 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Hopkinton.  Therese worked at Bette’s Café in Hopkinton.
