FBI Arrests Former Linn County Special Deputy Sheriff on Child Porn Charges

The FBI has arrested a former Linn County deputy on federal child pornography charges.

51-year old Gordon Grabau had served as a Special Deputy Sheriff in Linn County since 2000. Special Deputy Sheriffs are volunteer law enforcement officers who are paid one dollar per year to qualify them as employees for the County’s worker’s compensation benefits.

Grabau was served a search warrant by the FBI at his Marion home last July, at which time he was made aware that he was the subject of a criminal investigation.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says Sheriff Brian Gardner was notified and immediately placed Grabau on administrative leave. Grabau resigned shortly after.

Grabau was taken into custody by the FBI on June 30th for a federal child pornography charge. He is being held in the Linn County Correctional Center.

Sheriff Gardner has provided paperwork to the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy to help ensure that he is not employed anywhere else as a law enforcement officer.
