Robert “Bob” Patrick Mescher, 89, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Edgewood
Convalescent Home in Edgewood. He was born on May 6, 1933, on the home farm near New Vienna, the son of Henry
and Mathilda (Koopmann) Mescher. Bob was raised and educated in the Dyersville area. He attended and graduated
from Xavier High School in Dyersville. After graduation, Bob was drafted in the Army when the Korean War broke out.
He was honorably discharged in 1955.
On April 28, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to LuAnn Wegmann at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in
Petersburg. Four children were born to this union. After their marriage Bob and LuAnn moved to Dyersville for a
year, they then moved to a farm near Dundee for 11 years. The couple moved to a farm west of Edgewood where they
farmed for 47 years. They made their home for the last seven years in Edgewood.
During the years, Bob farmed and in 1969, he began working for Schroeder’s Cash Supply, Inc. He purchased the
lumberyard in 1972 and retired when he was 80 years old. Bob did a lot of woodworking and enjoyed fishing. He was
a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point where he was a member of the choir. Bob was a
faithful member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Bob enjoyed conversing with everyone he met, but most of
all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, LuAnn Mescher; his four children, Randy (Vickie) Mescher of Edgewood; Pat (Marsha)
Mescher of Dundee, Kathy Hansel of Edgewood, and Jeff (Carmen) Mescher of Independence; eight grandchildren,
Timothy, Mark, Jessica, Justin, Katie, Beth, Matt and Allie; 13 great-grandchildren; his three siblings, Armella Phillips of
Fly Creek, New York, Alfred “Fritz” (Jeanette) Mescher and his twin, Dick (Jean) Mescher, both of Dyersville; and many
nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; ten brothers and sisters, Marie (Clarence “Barney) Kramer, Harry (Marge)
Mescher, C. J. (Alvie) Mescher, Bill (Germaine) Mescher, Viola Mescher, Louie (Kay) Mescher, Alice (Syl) Althoff,
Rosemary (LaVerne) Nelson; David (Janet) Mescher, and Gilbert (Bernice) Mescher.
