Special Election Results for Independence & Lake Delhi

Two special elections were held around the area on Tuesday.

Independence voters headed to the polls to elect a new mayor. Three candidates were running for the seat that was left vacant when Mayor Robert Hill passed away in April. Brad Bleichner received nearly 73-percent of the vote, while Nathan Hansen received 20-percent and Denny Vaughn received nearly seven percent.

Buchanan County Auditor Kris Wilgenbusch says there was a machine jam, which threw their count off by one – so she is requesting an administrative recount just to make sure the totals are correct.

Nearly seven hundred Independence voters turned out for the special mayoral election.

Meanwhile, Lake Delhi residents also voted on Tuesday in the annual Lake Delhi Trustees Election. Two candidates were running for the two open positions – Joe Scherrman received 12 votes and Joel Althoff received 11, with a total of 12 Lake Delhi residents voting.

Delaware County Auditor Carla Becker says the Lake Delhi election will be canvassed on Monday.
