Monticello Regional Airport Welcoming Special Guest

The Monticello Regional Airport will be welcoming a special guest on Saturday.
“Spooky”, a Douglas AC-47 from the American Flight Museum in Topeka, Kansas, will be stopping at the airport for a limited time during their trip home from EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
It will be one of the largest aircraft ever to visit the Monticello Regional Airport.
“Spooky” is a restored Vietnam War era AC-47 Gunship, restored in the markings of Sgt. John Levitow’s aircraft in which he received the Congressional Medal of Honor. It was designed to provide more firepower than light and medium ground-attack aircraft in certain situations when ground forces called for close air support.
The Monticello Regional Airport says due to agricultural aircraft currently operating there, any up-close viewing opportunities of “Spooky” may be limited – but they intend to fly it around the Monticello area.
It’s expected to arrive around 10:30 am Saturday, but that time could change.
