Ronald Arthur Funke – Manchester

Ronald Arthur Funke, 69, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at his home surrounded
by his family.

He was born on February 17, 1953, in Manchester, the son of Arthur and Doris (Hargrafen) Funke.

Ron was raised on the farm near Edgewood and was a 1971 graduate of Edgewood-Colesburg High School.

On December 27, 1975, Ron was united in marriage to Mary Heffernan at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley.
Four daughters were born to this union. The couple raised their family in Manchester. Ron retired from Bennett
Explosives after working there for 42 years.

Ron was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He played and coached softball for several years and
enjoyed playing basketball and golf.

Ron’s favorite hobby was setting up trains and designing his own model railroad layouts. Ron loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Funke of Manchester; his four daughters, Carla (David) DeMoss of
Cedar Falls, Sandra (Mark) Woods of Solon, Eileen (Travis) Wirth of Waterloo, and Marcia (Blake) Woebbeking of
Dike; nine grandchildren, Addison, Cooper, Addilyn, Ella, and Anna DeMoss, Karrigan and Maddux Woods, Ava
Wirth, Camdyn Woebbeking, with one on the way; his mother, Doris Funke of Edgewood; nine siblings, Sharon
(Steve) Smith of St. Anthony, Diane (Jim) Hansen of Toddville, Greg (Valorie) Funke of Manchester, Julie (Ken)
Burkle of Manchester, Jeff (Ann) Funke of Greeley, Dan (Joyce) Funke of Petersburg, Carol (Keith) Knight of Marion,
Susan (Paul) Panozzo of Arvada, Colorado, and Lisa (Bill) Reid of Central City; five brothers-in-law, Thomas
(JoAnn) Heffernan of Strawberry Point, James (Sally) Heffernan of Normal, Illinois, Michael (special friend, Cindy
Sheets) Heffernan of Ottumwa, Joe (Ruth) Heffernan of Manchester, and Louie Heffernan of Manchester; and many
nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Funke; his parents-in-law, Kenneth and Maxine Heffernan; and a
nephew, Cody Funke.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester,
with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester.
Friends may also call from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery – Manchester, Iowa
