Manchester Community Comes Out to Back the Blue

The Manchester community came out to “Back the Blue” on Tuesday night.

This second annual event hosted by Delaware County Pay It Forward was held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, giving residents the chance to enjoy a night with neighbors, friends and local law enforcement.

Committee member Missy McIntyre says there seemed to be a good turnout.

There were kids’ games, inflatables and food – and plenty of opportunities to interact with our local heroes from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Manchester Police Department and Iowa State Patrol. The departments faced off in a Tug of War contest – won by the State Patrol – and the kids who attended battled against them too, coming away winners. 13-year old Tate Wilson-Bries of Manchester was one of them:

Several officers received the most votes to get a pie in the face. And the dunk tank was back this year, giving everyone a chance to dunk their favorite law enforcement officer for a five dollar donation. And with the heat, they were all ready to take their turn in the tank. Manchester Police Officer Jordan Hoepner:

All the proceeds from this year’s “Back the Blue” event will benefit the new K-9 unit that’s coming to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Austin Zuercher, who will serve as the handler, says they’ve chosen a dog.

Deputy Zuercher says they really appreciate everyone’s support.
