Severe Storm Causes Tree Damage in Manchester

A severe storm that moved through Manchester late Wednesday morning left tree damage, especially on the north and west sides of town.

The thunderstorm moved through around 11 am, turning severe just as it hit the community. Delaware County Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber says winds reached up to 58 miles per hour.

Bieber says the livestock building that flipped over was on Quaker Mill, while the two houses damaged by the fallen trees were on North Wayne Street and Doctor Street (pictured below).

Several trees and numerous tree branches were down, mainly across the north and west end of Manchester, including along North Franklin Street and the cemeteries. And she says those homes and businesses that lost power seemed to be mostly focused on that north end of town too.

Manchester City Manager Tim Vick says city crews will come by to pick up any tree debris this Thursday and Friday.

The severe winds also left one of Manchester’s downtown street lights on East Main slightly out of place.

Vick says the street light is still operating as it should at that intersection.

While Wednesday’s severe thunderstorm warnings included other areas of Delaware County and beyond, emergency management says they really haven’t heard of any storm reports outside of Manchester.

Nearly two inches of rain fell in Manchester with that single storm on Wednesday, with several city streets experiencing flash flooding. Emergency management recommends residents check their basements for possible water.
