Area farmer injured, drug across farm field

A rural Linn County man remains in the hospital after an accident on his farm over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon just before 3pm, authorities responded to a farm accident in a field behind 5847 Troy Mills Road.

On arrival deputies discovered that 52 year old James Weighton of Central City had been using a 1934 John Deere tractor with a plow to plow a field with other members of a local tractor club. Mr. Weighton had been making a turn at the end of the field when his tractor struck a log which was covered by grass at the field edge.

This threw Mr. Weighton from the tractor that he was operating and he was drug approximately 40 yards across the field by the plow before falling free.

Weighton was treated at the scene and airlifted by Lifeguard Air Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics where he is being treated for serious injuries.
