Five area schools are receiving grants from the Greater Delaware County Community Foundation.
West Delaware, St. Mary’s, Maquoketa Valley, Ed-Co and North Linn will benefit from the grants, which totaled twelve thousand dollars.
The grants are funded by the money left to the foundation by Garrett McGee. They’re intended to be used to help students from low-income families enjoy a better school career by being able to participate in things they might not have been able to otherwise.
In the past, this four-year old program has purchased required sports equipment for kids, rented band instruments and purchased needed clothing, medicines, counseling, food and other things to help the learning process.
