Ed-Co and Maquoketa Valley Holding Special Elections Today

Voters in the Ed-Co and Maquoketa Valley school districts will be heading to the polls today.

Ed-Co is asking voters to cast their ballot on a $12.55 million bond issue. Superintendent Rob Busch says the bond will support the district in several key areas.

Busch explains how the bond will affect taxpayers in the Ed-Co School District if it’s approved.

He says this proposed project has been in the works now for six years.

A 60-percent supermajority is needed for the Ed-Co bond issue to pass.

In the Maquoketa Valley School District today, voters will choose whether or not to renew their voted Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL). Superintendent Dave Hoeger:

MV voters will also vote on filling a vacancy on the school board. Board member Rick Bojorquez moved out of the district recently and Pam Overman is the lone candidate on the ballot to fill his spot.

The Independence Community School District will also vote on a PPEL Referendum today. And the Anamosa School District is asking voters to approve $16 million to build, furnish and equip a gymnasium addition to the high school, along with a walking track, locker rooms and concessions, as well as a parking lot and other improvements.

Polls in Delaware County are open from 7 am to 8 pm. If you’re wondering where you need to go to vote, you can check online at delawarecountyelections.iowa.gov (or your county website) or call your County Auditor’s Office.
