West Delaware Volleyball Hosting Cancer Awareness Night

The West Delaware Hawks volleyball team will be bringing awareness to cancer at their home meet tonight.

The team will be recognizing Melanoma and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, with the Hawks volleyball players each wearing a black hair ribbon in memory of former West Delaware teacher Janella Neverman and all of those who have been affected by Melanoma. Janella lost her battle with metastasized melanoma in March.

Mount Vernon volleyball players will be wearing a violet hair ribbon in honor of the community’s Summer Brand and all of those who have been affected by Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Summer is a 2020 graduate and the daughter of assistant volleyball coach Robin Brand. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma this summer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

A silent auction will be held tonight – and all of those proceeds, along with monetary donations, will go to the Summer Brand family.

A Facebook fundraiser was also created – West Delaware Volleyball Fundraiser for Melanoma Research Alliance – and will be open through September 20th, with all donations going to the Melanoma Research Alliance.
