A couple of area towns are getting grants to help with water and sewer infrastructure projects.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority has announced grant awards for nine communities, including Guttenberg and Oelwein. Guttenberg is receiving $500,000 for water system improvements, while Oelwein is receiving $600,000 for sanitary sewer improvements.
IEDA and Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham says the awards will not only support nine water quality projects, but will also create opportunities for these communities to thrive.
Guttenberg Mayor Fred Schaub says their grant will allow Guttenberg to move forward with critical updates to their water infrastructure while keeping rates low for their residents.
