Voting Opens for November General Election

Voting opens today for the November general election.

Here in Delaware County, in-person absentee voting will be available at the Delaware County Auditor’s Office starting at 8 am this morning.

Residents can vote absentee through the day before the election Monday, November 7th until 4:30 pm. The Auditor’s Office will also be open for absentee voting on the two Saturdays before the election – Saturday, October 29th from 8 am to noon and Saturday, November 5th from 9 am to 5 pm.

Today is also the first day that counties can mail out absentee ballots, so if you’ve requested one, you can expect it in the mail soon.

The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is this Monday, October 24th at 5 pm. To request an absentee ballot for this election, complete the official form and return it to the Delaware County Auditor’s Office. The forms are available at the Auditor’s Office or you can go online to the Delaware County Elections website at delawarecountyelections.iowa.gov or the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at sos.iowa.gov.

Pre-Election Day voter registration for the November general election will also close this Monday, October 24th at 5 pm. Delaware County Auditor Carla Becker says it’s highly recommended that anyone wishing to vote in this election should pre-register by that deadline, though eligible persons do have the right to register to vote and cast a ballot on Election Day if they’re able to provide proof of both their identity and residency at the polls.

If you have any questions about absentee voting or registering to vote, reach out to the Delaware County Auditor’s Office at 927-4701.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 8th, with races for Iowa Governor, U.S. Senate and Congress and the Iowa Legislature. Polls will be open that day in Delaware County from 7 am to 8 pm, with live election coverage and results that night on KMCH.
