Coggon man arrested after slow-speed chase

A Coggon man is in jail after a slow-speed chase on Monday afternoon.

The Robins Police Department says just before 2:30 pm, Linn County authorities tried to stop a white Toyota Rav 4 driving in a reckless manner in Cedar Rapids just north of Blairs Ferry Road.

The vehicle then was found at a stoplight on County Home Road at North Center Point. A slow-speed chase continued for 31 minutes until 61 year old Harold E. Wieland Jr. got out of his vehicle on foot and ran on Linn-Delaware road about 1 ½ miles east of Coggon, where he was taken into custody. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol joined in on the pursuit.

Wieland was charged with driving while barred, reckless driving, eluding, interference with official acts, and failure to provide proof of insurance.

No law enforcement personnel were injured. Wieland suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the scene.
