William “Bill” K. Wolter- Manchester

William “Bill” K. Wolter, 99, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on December 11, 1922, the son of Karl and Lucy Wolter in New York City, New York. In October, 1929 Bill with his mother went by boat to Los Angeles via Havana, Cuba and Panama. Bill worked with his stepfather, Hans N. Aaroe in the headlight business. He enlisted in the United States Airforce in December, 1942. Bill was stationed at Foggia, Italy, working as an engine electrician. In 1945 Bill was stationed to Casablanca, Morocco before returning to Los Angeles. Bill was honorably discharged in December 1945.

In April, 1952, Bill married Marion Fairbanks. Two children were born to this union, son, Carl in 1954 and daughter, Karen in 1957. The family moved to Riverside, California in 1956, were Bill worked at Norton Air Force base at San Bernadino in the avionic electronics. He retired in 1989. Marion passed away in 1999.

In 2003 Bill was united in marriage to Marjorie (Monaghan) Traver and in 2006 they moved to Iowa. Bill was on the first Honor Flight out of Dubuque in May of 2010 to visit the WWII memorial.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Wolter; his children, Carl Wolter and Karen Proctor; his stepchildren, Timothy (Dana) Traver, Christine Buswell, Cindy (Hamid) Ghareaghadje, Nancy (Ned) Hyduke, Jeffery Traver, and Hope Robbins; 13 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two on the way.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Marion in 1999.

Inurnment: Crestlawn Memorial Park, Riverside, California, at a later date.
