Robert “Edwin” Bishop – Manchester

Robert “Edwin” Bishop, 98, of Manchester, Iowa, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Edwin was born on November 27, 1924, in Delaware County Iowa, Milo Township. He was the son of James and Vera (Hardin) Bishop. Edwin graduated from Manchester High School in 1942 and attended Gates Business School in Waterloo.

On December 5, 1942, Edwin was united in marriage to Helen Dudley at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. Three children were blessed to this union. Together they farmed south of Manchester. In 1969 they moved to an acreage on the southeast corner of Manchester where he started Bishop Christmas Tree Farm. He also became an income tax preparer and farm manager.

Edwin was a very civic minded person. He served on several boards and supported many groups, including West Delaware School Board, Delaware County Pork Producers, FFA, First Lutheran Church, EWALU, president of Maquoketa Valley REC, and president of CIPCO. Edwin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan.

Edwin was an avid fisherman, and he and Helen loved going to Canada and all over the United States on fishing trips. He was well known in the area for his great fish frys.

Survivors include his three sons, Robert “Bob” (Nancy) Bishop of Fort Myers, Florida, Richard “Dick” (Marlene) Bishop of Manchester, and Randall “Randy” (Sandy) Bishop of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; and his brother, William “Bill” Bishop.

Memorials may be sent or designated to EWALU Bible Camp.

Edwin has been accepted in the Mayo Clinic Body Donation Program in Rochester, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
