Blizzard Warning in Effect Through Saturday Morning

A Blizzard Warning went into effect Thursday night for eastern Iowa, with whiteout conditions expected heading into Friday.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour across Iowa, blowing around the powdery snow that fell Wednesday night into Thursday and leading to hazardous road conditions.

Meteorologist Roger Vachalek at the National Weather Service:

And it’s not just the wind – it’s the bitter cold too. Wind chills across Iowa were dropping to 40-below-zero throughout the day on Thursday and that will continue through the holiday weekend.

The Blizzard Warning runs through 6 am Saturday.
