Delaware County Public Health Hosting Free Suicide Prevention Training

Unfortunately, more and more lives are being touched by suicide – but health officials say anyone can learn steps to help prevent that tragedy from happening.

Delaware County Public Health is hosting a free Suicide Prevention QPR Training next month. QPR stands for “Question, Persuade and Refer” – and Public Health Supervisor Krystle DeShaw says these are three steps anyone can take to help stop someone from taking their own life.

The Suicide Prevention QPR Training will be held Tuesday, February 7th at Regional Medical Center in Manchester in the Veterans Education Center. You can choose from two training session times that day – either 7:30 to 9:30 am or 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Training instructor Ryan Nesbit will lead the training – he’s the co-director of Alive and Running Iowa. He’ll share his own stories of suicide, loss and suicidal intention.

DeShaw says they welcome anyone 12 and older to attend.

Pre-registration is required. You can register online by calling Delaware County Public Health at 927-7551 or go to https://bit.ly/3Eu6W1C.
