Carol Ann Raithel- Earlville,

Carol Ann Raithel, 86, of Earlville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at University Hospital and
Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation for Carol will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023, at Clifton-
Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Earlville with the Reverend Christopher Podhajsky
officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Earlville. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home &
Cremation Service of Earlville is in charge of arrangements.

Carol was born on September 29, 1936, in Earlville, the daughter of William and Anna (Klinkner) Gibbs. She
graduated from Earlville High School in 1954. Carol married Donald Sellner on September 1, 1955, at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, Earlville, they later divorced. She married Gilbert Klaren on May 15, 1987, at St. Luke’s
Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa, he preceded her on July 10, 1989. Carol married the love of her life, Arthur
Raithel on June 22, 1992, at St. Joseph Catholic in Earlville; and he died on February 5, 2008.

Carol was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. She enjoyed working on sewing projects, studying
genealogy, and listening to music. Carol volunteered to work for many organizations and especially liked to help
with the Music Booster Club and sewing and alterations. Carol especially loved spending time with her family
and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by her son, Thomas (Pam) Sellner of Manchester, Iowa; six daughters, Tamy (Robert) Halfhill
of Earlville, Tracy Sellner of Cresco, Iowa, Tana (Grant) Guetzko of Delhi, Iowa, Trudy Sellner of Marshalltown,
Iowa, Tina (Duane) Elgin of Manchester, Tricia (Alan) Connolly of Maquoketa, Iowa; twenty grandchildren;
thirty great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lorranine Boffeli of Manchester and
Lucille Holtz of Earlville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Gibbs; husbands, Gilbert Klaren and Arthur Raithel
(15 years to the day that Arthur had passed away); two sons, Terry Sellner and Tim Sellner; two grandson, Austin
Newman and Seth Sellner; one great-grandson, Matthew Sellner; four brothers, Charles, Glen, William C, and
Earl Gibbs and her three sisters, Jean Hampton, Virginia Leslein and Margaret Hach.

Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or Maquoketa Valley Dollars for Scholars in memory of Art and
Carol Raithel.
