Mexican Man Living in Linn County Sentenced for Illegally Re-entering U.S. After Deportation

A man who illegally returned to the United States after being deported was sentenced Wednesday to more than two months in federal prison.

35-year old Raymundo Gutierrez-Lagunas, a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the U.S. and living in Linn County, received the prison term after pleading guilty in January to one count of illegal reentry into the United States after having been deported.

At the guilty plea, Gutierrez-Lagunas admitted he had previously been deported from the United States and illegally reentered without the permission of the United States government.  He was previously deported in November 2013. In December, immigration officials learned Gutierrez-Lagunas had illegally returned to the United States and found him at the Linn County Jail after he was arrested on state charges.

Gutierrez-Lagunas is being held in the U.S. Marshal’s custody until he can be turned over to immigration officials.
