Authorities have released the names of the two women shot to death at a rural Linn County home on Tuesday morning.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they have been identified as 68-year old Debra Nadine Mayfield and 43-year old Karie Jane Mayfield. Both women lived in the home at 2561 Jordan’s Grove Road west of Springville, where the shooting took place.
The Sheriff’s Office says around 9:30 am, they received a call of a shooting at the home. When emergency personnel arrived, they found the two women dead from gunshot wounds.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office and Linn County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated at the scene and determined there was no danger to the public.
A witness was interviewed at the scene, with their statements consistent with the investigator’s initial findings. No other information has been released.
The women’s bodies were taken to Ankeny for autopsies.
