Former Dyersville Hotel Manager Charged with Fraud

A former Dyersville hotel manager has been charged with fraud after allegedly embezzling money from her workplace.

53-year old Michelle Kalb of Dyersville has been charged with Second Degree Fraudulent Practice.

Kalb served as manager of the Comfort Inn in Dyersville from January 2021 through November 2022. A criminal complaint released by Dyersville Police says on November 9th, the Comfort Inn reported that Kalb, their previous manager, had been possibly violating a fraudulent practice during her time as manager.

Michelle’s husband, Ted (TJ) Kalb, received seven paychecks from July 22nd through October 28th totaling over $2,500. There were no time cards filled out to show the actual numbers Ted had worked and Ted told officials he did not fill out any time cards.

Kalb’s son, GK, received eighteen paychecks from September 2021 through June 2022. GK was paid for nearly 220 hours, although the time cards only totaled up to 99.5 hours. According to staff members, GK was not at work during the hours shown on his time cards.

And Kalb’s daughter, Alyssa Krapfl, received three paychecks from January 2022 through February 2022 totaling just over $783. Current management says that wasn’t accurate because there were two times on the time cards when Alyssa didn’t punch out.

The total amount of money embezzled from the hotel was $6,249.51.

A warrant was issued for Kalb’s arrest. Dyersville Police say she was taken into custody last Thursday night.
