Berdina Maxine Carradus – Manchester

Berdina Maxine Carradus, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home.  She was born on October 24, 1926, in Manchester, the daughter of Oris and Etta (Stone) Miller.  Berdina was raised and educated in the area and was a 1945 graduate of Manchester High School.

On November 14, 1945, Berdina was united in marriage to Ellison Carradus at the Manchester United Methodist Church. Two children were born to this union.  Together they resided in Manchester.  Berdina was a homemaker and assisted Ellison in their construction business, Miller-Carradus Construction. Berdina also was a Mary Kay consultant for several years. Ellison passed away in 1983 and Berdina continued to reside in Manchester.

Berdina was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church for over 80 years. She was an active member of the church serving in the choir and the Methodist Ladies Circle. Berdina also served with the hospital auxiliary. She was active with the Red Hats Society, The Sweet Adeline’s, and the Manchester Country Club. Berdina always looked forward to playing golf and bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed gardening and birdwatching. Berdina was a wonderful seamstress and made many outfits for Teresa. She baked the most delicious cinnamon rolls you could ever eat. Berdina enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Teresa (Bruce) Brenholdt of Moneta, Virginia, and Craig Carradus of Davenport; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Berdina was preceded in death by her parents, Oris and Etta Miller; her husband, Ellison; her siblings, Harvey (Mildred) Miller, Dorothy Miller, Harold (Helen and Beth) Miller, Gladys (George and Vincent) Pugh, Melvin (Dorothy and Jeanette) Miller, Donald (Mae) Miller, Evelyn (Lyle & Rob) Bush, and Bernard (Rose & Ila) Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Manchester United Methodist Church or Care Initiatives Hospice.

Memorial Service:  11:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Manchester United Methodist Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Reverend Phil Rogers officiating.

Inurnment:  10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Oakland Cemetery-Manchester, Iowa
