Numerous Departments Help Clayton County Authorities Find Lost Child

Numerous departments came together on Saturday night to help find a lost child.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a 5-year old girl who had gone missing from her home three miles north of Holy Cross around 7:30 pm. It was believed she had wandered off.

Clayton County deputies initially searched the area, but weren’t able to find her. They requested more help, with local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS services, Emergency Management and drone services all responding. The girl was found in a field nearly four hours later, shortly before 11:30 pm, a half mile south from her home near the Clayton/Dubuque County line. She was transported to a Dubuque hospital as a precaution and reunited with her family.

Sheriff Mike Tschirgi and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the county residents in the North Buena Vista/Holy Cross area who assisted with the search.

They also thank the following agencies for their assistance in locating the missing child – Holy Cross Fire Department & EMS, Sherrill Fire Department, Guttenberg Fire Department, Clayton County Emergency Management, Buchanan County Emergency Management, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office including Drone & K9 Unit, Independence Police Department K9 Unit, Farley Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office including UTV & K9 Unit, Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office & K9 Unit, Monona Fire Department’s Drone Unit, Dubuque Police Department Drone division, Department of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol and the Clayton County Secondary Roads Department.
