Earlville Man Requesting New Trial in Wife’s 2018 Death

An Earlville man serving time for murdering his wife is asking for a new trial.
Todd Mullis was convicted by a Dubuque County jury in September 2019 of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Amy. She was fatally stabbed in the back with a corn rake on their farm in November 2018. Mullis is serving a life sentence for her murder.
In his request for a new trial, Mullis says there “exists evidence of material facts, not previously presented and heard, that requires vacation of the conviction.â€Â
Mullis also says his trial counsel did not pursue the defense that he wanted them to – he wanted to argue that Amy’s death involving the corn rake was an accident, but his counsel had argued that she died by homicide.
A judge will now consider Mullis’ appeal.
