Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Preparing for Flight #46

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will be launching Flight #46 later this month.

On Tuesday, April 25th, the next Honor Flight out of Cedar Rapids will take ninety-four veterans on a one-day trip to Washington, D.C. The flight will be carrying seven Korean War veterans, along with eighty-four from the Vietnam Era and three from the Gulf War and War on Terrorism.

The Honor Flight gives veterans a special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the monuments and memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice. Since the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight began operations in 2009, forty-five flights have transported over four thousand veterans and their guardians to the nation’s capital. The trip entails visits to the WWII, Korean and Vietnam memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery for a special wreath dedication.

“Many flight veterans never received a ‘thank you’ when they returned from their service,” says Eastern Iowa Honor Flight President Dick Bell. “As a community, this is our chance to make up for that.”

Their flight is scheduled to return to Cedar Rapids at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday night, April 25th. Everyone is invited to attend the “Welcome Home” celebration at the Eastern Iowa Airport.
