Manchester City Council Holding First Reading on Revised ATV/UTV Ordinance

The City of Manchester is looking at revising its ATV/UTV ordinance, with the first official step in that process taking place tonight.

The ordinance allowing ATVs and UTVs on certain city streets has been in effect for a couple years now. It has even served as a reference for other area communities looking to start their own ordinance and bring ATVs and UTVs into town.

But with some state laws changing and some riders not following the city’s ordinance, the Manchester City Council felt now was a good time to review it to see if any local changes need to be made. They recently met with the local Roads to Trails ATV Club and several changes have been proposed. The City says the essence of the changes is that UTVs will be allowed to operate in town – however, they will still be restricted from Highway 13 (North Franklin Street and West Main Street) and the 100 block of Main Street and Franklin Street. City Manager Tim Vick:

Manchester’s updated ATV/UTV ordinance will need to pass through three readings before it’s approved. The first reading will take place at tonight’s Manchester City Council meeting, which starts at 5 pm.

Also on tonight’s agenda, the City Council will review the East Main Street speed limit and construction quotes for the Meadow Brook Trail extension on East Main.
