Oelwein Woman Charged with Arson Following Apartment Fire

An Oelwein woman is charged with arson following a fire at an apartment in Westgate on Monday morning.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year old Lakesha S. Hicks allegedly lit a rug on fire, which started the apartment on fire. 

One of the people inside the apartment was woken up by a pet dog and discovered the apartment was filled with smoke. The occupants extinguished the fire and later reported it to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. 

Hicks is charged with First Degree Arson. She is being held in the Fayette County Jail awaiting her initial appearance.
