Senator Grassley Visits Regional Medical Center to Talk Healthcare

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was in Manchester on Monday morning to visit with the staff at Regional Medical Center about healthcare.

RMC extended the invite to the longtime senator about a month ago – so as part of his 99 County Tour to Delaware County, Grassley stopped by to take questions for about an hour on a number of healthcare concerns, from nursing wages to recruiting physicians to rural hospitals. Grassley says the messages he’s taking away from his RMC visit are similar to what he’s heard at other rural hospitals he’s visited.

One RMC staff member brought up the concern of rural areas becoming maternity deserts. Grassley says he introduced the Healthy Moms & Babies Act last fall to improve maternal and child healthcare.

Senator Grassley also heard from an audience member who shared her experience of suspected Medicare fraud involving her 94-year old mother.

It’s been several years since Senator Grassley has visited Regional Medical Center. He says he tries to reach a cross-section of constituents during his 99 County Tour across Iowa each year.

Senator Grassley had two more stops in eastern Iowa on Monday before heading back to Washington, D.C., where he’s currently working with other legislators on the Farm Bill.
