Fire Damages Machine Shed Near Holy Cross

Fire damaged a machine shed near Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says around 3 pm, a passerby noticed smoke coming from a machine shed at the Louis Cook residence at 23711 Flannagan Road northeast of town. 

Fire and EMS units from Holy Cross, New Vienna, Farley and Sherrill were dispatched, along with the Sheriff’s Office.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Damage for the building and equipment inside was estimated at $120,000. 

An investigation indicates the fire started in a piece of farm equipment that was located in the shed. The fire is not considered to be suspicious, but remains under investigation.
