Jones County’s First Publicly Available Fast EV Charging Station Installed at Camp Courageous

The first publicly available fast Level 3 electric vehicle charger in Jones County has been installed at Camp Courageous.

This 50kW charging station, available to the public 24 hours a day, was made possible by funding from New Leader Manufacturing and their commitment to sustainability projects. This new station makes Camp Courageous a destination for those looking for fast EV charging options.

New Leader Manufacturing (NLM) has been giving back to area communities and organizations for years, including Camp Courageous. In 2019 they formalized a giving campaign called “Spreading Good.”  Through this program, New Leader Manufacturing assists with events, programming, and equipment that have an impact on a community.

“New Leader Manufacturing is passionate about all of the amazing non-profits, like Camp Courageous,”  said Jessica Pleggenkuhle, Community Impact Specialist for NLM. “I know that this charger was important to New Leader because we also prioritize sustainability efforts. So hearing about this need, especially in our rural communities, was a showstopper.”

The 50kW charging station at Camp Courageous makes charging fast and convenient for electric vehicle owners. The station has already been used by several visitors who have watched presentations about Camp, taken tours, and enjoyed walking the trails. Part of the electricity used for the charging station is covered by the multiple solar panel arrays installed at Camp Courageous.  The EV station is listed in many vehicle apps as well as popular third-party apps that list charging locations.
