Red Cross Hosting Manchester Community Blood Drive

The American Red Cross is hosting a community blood drive in Manchester today.
And your help is needed. Volunteer Blood Program Leader Marcia Burkle says there is a critical need for blood donors at this time, so if you can donate, the time is now.
Only three-percent of Americans donate blood – and with COVID, that number plummeted. Since the start of the pandemic, blood banks across the United States have been calling on eligible donors to come down and help stave off shortages. In January 2022, the Red Cross declared its first-ever blood crisis after experiencing a 10-percent decline in the number of people donating. And with someone needing blood every two seconds, it’s vital to have a lot banked.
All blood types are needed today – whether you’re a long-time donor or donating for the first time.
And there’s a perk for donating at today’s Manchester blood drive – along with ice cream and homemade goodies, all donors will receive a $10 e-gift card, a Shark Week shirt and a chance to win a private shark dive at Long Island Aquarium in New York.Â
Today’s Blood Drive runs from 11 to 5:30 at the Delaware County Community Center in Manchester. Walk-ins are welcome.
