Learn How to Help Manchester Reduce Food Waste on Saturday

Every community has its own challenges and needs when it comes to reducing and redirecting food waste from the landfill.

The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) has over 32 years of experience providing successful training programs, technical assistance and pollution prevention services focused on food waste, recycling and hazardous substances.

On Saturday, IWRC experts will be in Manchester to provide training in composting and vermicomposting, as well as help set up a donation and collection program for food remaining at the end of each farmers market. The workshop is tailor-made for our community and will provide the tools needed to create a strong food collection and donation program and make Manchester an even better place to call home.

“A greater quality of life can be reached within a community by developing a localized food waste management plan to address food waste,” said IWRC Program Manager Jenny Trent. “Community Partnerships forged through networking to address complimentary goals (e.g. food waste and food insecurity) have the capacity to bring together a community to improve community pride, increase opportunities and create a healthier environment.”

All members of the Manchester community are encouraged to attend.

Visit the IWRC at the Manchester Farmers Market on Saturday, July 29 from 7:30-11:00 am and then roll up your sleeves for a hands-on training in compositing and vermicomposting from 1:00-2:30 pm at the Manchester Community Garden.
