Del Co Ag Classic Raises Over $12,000 to Address Food Insecurity

A new Delaware County fundraiser has brought in thousands of dollars to help address food insecurity.

The Delaware County Farm Bureau, Delaware County Cattlemen and Delaware County Dairy Promoters hosted the “Del Co Ag Classic” golf tournament on Friday night, August 4th. The new event raised more than $12,000 to help address food insecurity in Delaware County.

Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. According to ISU Extension, 10% of the total population and 16% of children less than 18 years old are food insecure in Delaware County.

Several organizations will be receiving funds, including the Delaware County Food Bank, Second Helpings, Delhi Food Pantry, Hopkinton Food Pantry, Edgewood Food Pantry and Rural Community Food Pantry.

Allison Bishop, Co-Secretary of Delaware County Cattlemen, says the Del Co Ag Classic was a great success and they’re hoping to grow the event in future years.

“It’s been great to see the agricultural groups come together for a great cause within our community and see what we were
able to do in our first year,” says Nicole Engelken, Delaware County Dairy Promoters President. “Excited to see what we can do in future years!”

“Everyone that I talked to had a great time at the outing,” says Allison Bishop, Co-Secretary of the Delaware County Cattlemen. “Our sponsors hosted fun games throughout the course, there were great flight prizes, and a silent auction. You don’t have to be an avid golfer to still have fun! We appreciate everyone’s participation and hope to continue to grow the event in future years. It was a success this year by the support we saw from our local community.”
