Crop Conditions Improve Slightly This Past Week

Crop conditions have improved slightly this past week.
This week’s Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA says corn condition is rated 60 percent good to excellent, while soybeans are rated 59 percent good to excellent.
Corn in the dough stage reached 92 percent this week – ten days ahead of average – and 39 percent of the corn crop was dented – that’s three days ahead of normal.
Soybeans setting pods reached 94 percent – a week ahead of average – with soybeans starting to turn color now at four percent.
Oats harvested for grain reached 98 percent – a week ahead of average.
The State’s third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 82 percent complete – that’s 16 days ahead of normal. Livestock producers are continuing to supplement with hay due to the prolonged dry conditions.
