Manchester’s Hero Hustle Raises Money for Local Heroes

The Hero Hustle is this Sunday in Manchester.

The annual event brings together local athletes for a triathlon, which includes a 400-yard swim, a 16-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Athletes can compete individually or as part of a team – and there’s also the option to do a duathlon, in which the swim is replaced with another run.

The Hero Hustle is a fundraiser for our local heroes. All the proceeds go to Delaware County Public Safety, which includes fire departments, EMS and law enforcement – with more than $52,000 raised since the event started eight years ago.

This year, more than 180 athletes are set to compete, with the youngest 12 years old and the oldest 69 years old. The athletes represent six states, 33 counties and 65 cities.

To ensure the athletes’ safety, there is a road closure. Schram Park south on 180th Avenue to 275th Street east to 197th Avenue will be closed to travelers between 9 and 11 am. Travelers will be asked to turn around and take a different route, wait until the last biker passes or they will be allowed to go directly across if there is a crossroad and it is safe for the bikers. As soon as the last biker goes through, there are volunteers that will immediately open the roadway back up.

Sunday’s Hero Hustle starts at 9 am at Schram Park in Manchester and the public is encouraged to come out and cheer them on.
