HACAP Receives Grant to Expand Services in Dubuque County

The Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc. (HACAP) is thrilled to announce the receipt of the Early Head Start Conversion Grant from the Office of Head Start, a development of great significance for HACAP and the communities of Dubuque and Washington
counties.

With the approval of this grant, HACAP will offer Early Head Start services at no cost to qualified families in Dubuque and Washington Counties, targeting children from birth to age 3. The grant will provide funding for 40 Early Head Start services in Dubuque County, with 32 slots allocated to the Marita Theisen Childcare Center and 8 slots to the Dyersville Head Start. Furthermore, HACAP is proud to offer 8 Early Head Start slots at Orchard Hill in Washington County.

The grant award, effective October 1, 2023, represents a significant step forward for HACAP. HACAP is actively engaged in developing transition plans for the three centers that will host Early Head Start classrooms, with an anticipated start date for services in October.

Christi Regan, Early Childhood Programs Director at HACAP, expressed her enthusiasm for this milestone, stating, “This grant award is a testament to our commitment to providing quality early childhood education and support to children and families in the counties we serve. We are excited to expand our services and continue our partnership with the Marita Theisen Childcare Center to make a positive impact in these communities.”

Judy Wolf, President of Steeple Square, stated, “We are delighted to advance our partnership with HACAP, providing the opportunity to better serve families in the Washington Street and North-end neighborhoods. This aligns with our ongoing intent to collaborate with existing non-profits to meet critical needs in our community.”

Parents, guardians, and community members interested in enrolling their children are invited to apply at hacap.org/headstart or by contacting HACAP Head Start at 319.393.7811.
